Will's Stocking

There is nothing better than a phone call from a shop where you have left something to be finished and finding out that the item is in.  I had such a call on Tuesday while I was at work.  Of course this shop doesn't have evening hours so I had to wait until today to pick it up.

So I waited for the shop to open and drove my self over there to pick it up.

Will's Stocking Finished 8.14.10
So here it is, you have watched grow week by week.  I'm very happy with the finished project.  I have taken all of my stocking to the same shop to be finished since the very first one I made in 1990.  Attic Needlework  I'm not sure if it is the same person since the beginning but I have never had any complaints.

Kierra's & Will's Stockings together.

This this stocking is for Kierra's husband I sent Kierra's stocking with the stitching so she can match fabric weight.  Here is a picture of the two stockings together.  Kierra's has a green background and Will's red so they look great together.

The designer of the stockings is Mary Beale, this link takes you to the stocking samplers.  I have made #2 for Richard, #3 Krystal, #4 Kinsen, # 5 Will, #6 Klint, #7 Mary, and #9 Kierra.

At Christmas I'll post pictures of all the stockings.

Stocking Update

It is finished!!
As of 10 minutes ago at 9:20 PM on June 20, 2010 the stitching on Will's stocking is finished.  Next Saturday I will take it to my favorite cross stitch shop to have it made into a stocking.  I'm very glad to have this done.  I have decided to leave the wings of the two angels different.  I just can't have two identical angels, I mean we are all different so I think angles are also.

The top picture shows what I completed this week.  The bottom picture is a view of the full stocking.

Now on to other projects.

Stocking Update

I spent a little bit of time a couple of evenings this last week working on the stocking. I spent a lot time on Friday, Saturday evening and today in the evening. This part took a lot of time! It is complicated and took a lot of back tracking to fill in all the areas. But it is done!! Don't worry it only looks like I'm not straight. The stitches do line up, it's just a little stretched on the frame.

Look, I only have a little bit left to do!! Not much at all. I hope I can get it done by next Sunday night. That would be so awesome if I can. My quilting machine is calling me, some of my fabric is calling me. I want to get this done so I can work on other things.

Stocking Update

I spent some time on Saturday & today making progress on this here stocking. I'm on the last section of pattern, I'm so glad. I do have two different colors on that very bottom part. Because I changed a couple of color to fit the kids taste, I wasn't sure if I wanted to use one of the colors so I played with two other colors. I'm not sure I like it. I might go back to the original color, but I might have to unwind the whole thing to see what color will look the best. I need to do that earlier than 9:30 PM, so maybe tomorrow after work I'll look again to see what I like. Not that the kids will notice.

Stocking Update

I made a lot of progress on the stocking, or it seems like I did to me. I had to rip that big N out. I was three stitches too far to the left, of course when I noticed I was just about done with it. I was determined to have that one letter in there tonight, so I took it out and re-did it. That red trim was very time consuming.

My copy of EQ7 has arrived and I done some playing in the program and I'm very pleased with what I see so far. It is very similar to EQ6 in it's layout and functioning, which will make upgrading my classes easier. I have drawn a block and designed a little wall hanging.

Stocking Update

I finished the top of the stocking and since I had to wind it up onto the top bar, I decided to unroll the whole stocking to see how the how much progress has really been made. This was taken on Wednesday May 19th. This is about 2/3s completed.

This pictures is from last night and this is what I finished over the weekend, the letters and the start of another vine. As you can see by the green stitches I have started the work on the toe area. I'm very pleased with my progress.

Stocking Update

Well first I'm going to show you the surprise I came home to on Wednesday after work. My hubby planned ahead and ordered these flowers for me for Mother's Day. I took a picture Thursday morning but there was too much mess on the counter. So I just took another picture, now on Monday evening they are holding up very well. They are lovely and I really appreciated his thoughtfulness!! Thanks Honey they are lovely. Even in this picture everything was cleared off the counter but one thing and of course it's in my picture, oh well the kitchen is a busy place.

Here is the progress on Will's Christmas stocking! Those letters take a lot of time. I have the capital letters on the bottom half of the stocking to do yet. I'm going to like the part I'm starting now, the green vines with flowers. As you can see I'm still undecided about the angles' wings. I still have two different colors. So far one friend sent me an email and she likes the white wings the best. Just as long as I decide before I take it in to be finished I'll be OK. Just my luck I'll forget and they will be different forever.

Stocking Update

See the line of red stitches, that part of the pattern is actually on another page of the pattern. The pattern is on four pages, but the forth page has a lot of the third page pattern on it. Any way I figure I'm about a third of the way done with the stocking by eye balling the picture of the pattern. Maybe a little less. I started in February so 2 months worth of work. I had planed it would take me 6 months to complete. I'm feeling very committed to working on the stocking.

Today I was looking at pictures of Krystal's stocking that I made in 2006. I started her stocking in February and finished in October. I can't remember what else I was doing that year, other than a new job and a new floor because of a flood in the house. I'm really hoping this one will be done before October.

There is more stitching rolled under the cover on the frame that you can't see here.

Stocking Update

I'm making this a Christmas stocking update only, since I haven't sewed a thing in weeks. I'm pleased with the progress I'm making on the stocking. You can look here for the last update on the stocking. You see I have made progress!

I didn't like the tan they suggested for the angel's wings, so I tried white, well I could hardly see the flat white so I tried a metallic white, I'm not sure I like that either. Which angel's wing do you like the one on the left that is metallic white or the one on the right that is tan??? Please leave a comment and let me know.
You can double click on the picture to make it larger.

Thank you all you faithful followers for stopping by!!

Sunday Quilting Update

Well this is really a cross stitch update. I made a lot of progress on Will's Christmas stocking. That is what I did while listening to General Conference this weekend. Plus the computer was down. It's amazing what you can accomplish when the computer is down. If you look at last week's picture you can see all the progress I made. It feels good!!
It also fun when the row ends right at the opposite end!

I did make two Farmer's Wife Sampler Blocks. I took Picasa off my computer. I haven't decided if I'll put it back on. I miss the collage feature. I have to spend about a week getting all these photos organized. I had them all organized an picasa reorganized them. Now to decide on a photo editing product. But not tonight, I need to go to bed.

Quilting Update

I was able to do some sewing this week. I finally finished joining the last two pinwheel borders for the Washington Medallion Quilt. This is a good feeling. I'm not sure when I'll find the time to do the floating borders. Floating borders are a pain. It has been a good learning experience.

I also made two Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks. These were on the easy side. I had planned to make four but I was watching a movie and it slowed down my production. I was watching Mrs. Brown. Interesting but a little confusing.

Today I received a fun photo in my email today. I made this little quilt to cover a window in our daughter's window by her front door. She sent me a picture of it finally hanging up. Read this post to see what I had designed for her in EQ6.

I did do some stitching on Will's Christmas stocking. Slow progress but steady!!

Quilting Update

After another busy week of work, coming home tired almost everyday, stress is a bummer. I did manage to find time to sew two blocks, these blocks are 6" finished.
I'm still spending a lot of time at the computer organizing files, I scanned in 50 plus pictures and documents on the last Sunday of February and I'm still labeling them all. I would recommend scan a few then label. I'm also spending time doing web searches and indexing on Family Search. Plus a viewing, a funeral, out of town cousins, dinner with them, breakfast with them, which was just great. Man I'm making myself tired again.

I was able to find some time to do some stitching on the big Christmas project, Will's stocking, I do that while watching my new favorite shows, The Generations Project on BYU and Who Do You Think You Are?, it's on one of the big 3, I think it's NBC. I tried to take a picture of this last night but the battery was dead in the camera. I was a little surprised it was dead, I hadn't used it that much and it is a new camera with a new battery. I'll have to watch it.

Well it's time to go to work. Have a good day!

An update

This is from my EQ6 class down at Cutting Edge Quiltworks, my LQS. These pictures are not posed, they are actually helping each other and very engaged. I have taught many EQ6 classes but I think this one was one of the best. It is always fun to see students begin to understand a new concept and to have fun. Plus it is such a great program they get all excited to see what it can do.

They want me to work up an advanced class, so I guess I better get on the stick. I have been so busy lately that I feel almost out of control. I'm trying to be balanced and not over do, because we all know what happens when you over do. So I feel like I'm only chipping away at things but that is better than nothing.

Here is the progress I made on Will's stocking. Can you see how much I have done!! Two lines of stitching is better than none. Opps I forgot I was suppose to go to the right with this picture! I'm not changing it now.

And last but not least here is my progress on my pin wheel borders. This will make two 20 block borders. Getting closer.

The big accomplishment for the week was to sew on two hanging sleeves and two labels on two quilts for the Arizona Quilter's Guild show Friday the 12 & Saturday the 13th at the Mesa Convention Center. I knew one quilt had made it into the show so I sewed the sleeve last Saturday night and the label on Sunday. I had returned home from delivering the quilt to the drop off person and I had visited with a friend. The phone rings and it is the quilt coordinator who asks were is my other quilt. I said I have never received the paper work on it and I thought it wasn't chosen to be in the show. It was and if I could get it down to the Mesa Convention Center I could have it in the show. I asked for a couple of hours to sew the hanging sleeve on and a label. I had it down there and was back home in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Record time. I did not turn on the TV or anything to keep distractions to a minimum. I spoke with a friend on the phone just to keep me company. Sorry no pictures of the sleeves or labels. What a relief you think. Watch for pictures of the quilts at the show next weekend!

Will's Stocking

I have made a Counter Cross Stitch Christmas stocking for each of us in our family. When Klint married Krystal I made on for her and now I'm making one for Kierra's husband Will. Here is the first picture. I did most of this between Friday night & Saturday morning in the hotel in San Diego and Sunday watching my saved Faces of America. I only had about 7 stitches done before I left here.
Next week I'll get more of a close up.
I did no sewing this week at all.
