Re-Organization of My Sewing Room

My Scrapbooking hobby is becoming more involved
and working in the living room wasn't working.
Let's face it I want one room to look presentable.

So for years this is my sewing room, I still call it my sewing room. So I had to squeeze scrapbooking in to this space. It was a big job. I still need to sort through some of my quilting stuff and give up the things that I know what I will never use
but that is a project for another day.

Looking into the room from the door way. Basically it looks the same, except now the bookcase under the TV has my paper supply in it. On the table that usually has my sewing machine are my most frequently tools use in scrapbooking. On top of the ironing board are my quilting tools that are normally on the table but here they out of the way of scrapbooking time. The little TV tray is for some of my extra supplies when I need them.

Another view from the door but straight on.

The cutting table and shelves straight on. This is a mix of both kinds of supplies. Plus my chick flicks and music CDs.

This is under the table, a mixture of both kinds of supplies.

Just a little closer look at the work table.
My machines are stored under the table.

A closer look at the bookcase between the tables. Yes it is a bit of a tight corner. The top shelve is solid colored paper and the second shelve paper with designs mostly in pads.
And yes those pads are in alphabetical order, I have the names of the paper written on the spine of the pads.
Third shelf is other scrapbooking supplies.
Yes those are my special treats in a basket on the floor.

This is the second bookcase which is a mix of
quilting supplies and scrapbooking supplies.

Just a close up of the second bookcase. The only shelf with scrapbooking stuff is the one with the two binders.

This is obviously a quilting side, the design wall, ironing board
and fabric storage. Yes I need a new cover for the design wall but I have a cat that likes to claw at it, so I am waiting. I am not designing with fabric right now anyway, just paper.

The closet that is filled with fabric arranged by color. No change here in the last five years.

Behind the door hanger has some quilting things and some scrapbooking things, mostly punches.  The peg board has all the larger rulers I use in quilting.

So now we are back to where we started,
we have made our way around the room.

I won't admit how long it took me to re-organize my room, but it was long. Plus I was working on scrapbooking during the project.

Well Little Bit just asked me to mend some pants for her, so I guess I have to go clean off the creative explosion that is currently on my table and put the sewing machine up. I am going to cheat and use the little Featherweight machine instead of the big one. It is a straight seam anyway.

Happy Stitching and Happy Scraping!!

All Clean Again!

Well it took me a month but my sewing room is all clean again.  I didn't work on it every day.  I have even sewed in it for the last three days.  Boy does that feel good.  I have two bad habits that make it hard for me to keep my room clean.  I don't put things away when I am done and I am a piler.  I make piles on flat surfaces.  What does a sewing room have, three flat surfaces.

Here are the results.

It feels good!

One of the first I did is change out my hall design wall.
I took down my Dear Jane borders and placed my Design and Sew blocks on the design wall.  It is the next projecting I want to finish.

Here are the 9 blocks I had done and I realized I only had three more to go.  For some reason I thought there were more to make.

Bigger Bit was in my sewing room last night while I was sewing and she told me, my room was so cool and she wants it.  She likes my spool of threads lights.

Little Bit was in the night before last and had to make a little fall decoration for her bedroom.

Tonight both girls have a friend over for a sleep over the little girls are watching movie in my sewing room.

Suddenly my room is a very popular place.

Sewing Has Resumed

Yes you read that right!  Yesterday (Saturday) I found some time after my EQ class to think about sewing.  So I cut fabric for the Halloween Twister pattern.

First Time Playing with Fabric After Remodel

This is how much I accomplished on Saturday.  Noticed my enlarged pattern.  The pattern pictures was so small it is hard to read and follow.  I drafted it in EQ and had a larger easier pattern to follow.

With two borders on

Today (Sunday) I was able to assemble and almost the complete top.  I just need to add the top & bottom border.  Then I get to cut it all over again and sew it back together again.  It's fun!

One of my friends stopped by today to see the remodel and she saw my little spool lights hanging over my sewing table and she said they are so me!

Remodeling

Yes we have been busy remodeling at our home!

Master Bath Before
The good news is we are almost done!  We removed all the popcorn ceilings from our four bedrooms, painted and had new carpet installed.  We also installed a new tub, tub surround, tile floor and vanity and counter top in the master bath.

New Master Bath
Above look at that old linoleum floor.  We have been in the house 19 years and I am sick of it.  I am thrilled with the results and glad to be getting my home back to normal.  We are down to the putting things away and a little de-junking.  I love the new updated look of the bathroom.

Sewing Room Before
One of the funny things that happened is I told Mr. B. to take a couple of boxes to DI (Deseret Industries).  Somehow he didn't follow up with the instruction. This was a few weeks before we started the remodeling.  I think we even asked a son to do this while we were in Miami on vacation.  They ended up in the garage and then back into the house.  Oh well, all is well that ends well.  We will donate them soon.

See the old mauve carpet, also not a favorite color of mine. The new carpet is called Wild Blueberry it is a blue grey and I love it.

Sewing Room Almost Done

Sewing Room Almost Done

We still have some things to do like hang up my design wall.  You can see the insulation sitting on my big board waiting to be hung.

Basically the big furniture is laid out in the same directions.
I removed the file cabinet and some plastic drawers I had and replaced them with two book cases.  I like them better.  The room feels more open and I have more space for things that weren't fitting in my closet any more.  As you can tell by the top of my cutting table I still have lots of little things to put away.  Also notice the absence of the sewing machine.  I think it will go in tomorrow.

So know you know why I haven't posted and sewing pictures i haven't been sewing.  I have been working on EQ 7 lessons.  They are kind of hard to post.

Sewing Room Closet

Before Picture of my closet
A few post back I shared a picture of my sewing room closet with a dresser in it.  It was full of my fabric.  Her it is so you don't have to search for it.  Well I finally made a decision on how I would manage this closet.

Monday Night
Last Monday I started moving things out.  I clean off all the stuff from the top of the dresser and placed them in the empty bedroom, soon to be guest room.

The drawers are out

Tuesday evening I moved all the drawers and put them in the Food Storage room.  There are 10 drawers and some were full to the top and some are half empty.  Each drawer had a color or type of fabric in them.

Dresser is out.

Thursday night I moved all the stuff that was in front of the closet like my rocking chair, stacks of magazines.  Mr. B & I went to Home Depot after our Friday night dinner and purchased the shelves and all the accessories to hang them in the closet.  It is amazing how expensive those things are.  The shelves aren't bad it the brackets that hold them up.  He & I also carried the dresser out of the sewing room to the room across the hall.  I am sure glad it wasn't any further.

New Shelves

Saturday when I came home from shopping for a new sewing machine, Mr. B had all the shelves in place.  He and I did adjust the heights a little bit so I can fit a couple short and long buckets on the bottom.  I went to Target and purchased more bucket or plastic bins for my fabric.

Sorting batiks

I spent Saturday evening and most of Sunday sorting my fabric.  Here are my batiks that I was sorting, I ended up with 4 buckets, one for lights, mediums, darks & Christmas.  I really did vacuum the floor before I started, now I have to do it again.

Almost done!
Here is the last picture for today, I am almost done!  What a good feeling!  See that tall bottom shelve, those taller buckets fit there just perfectly and now I don't have to stand on a foot stool to reach for them any more.  They were on the very top shelve over my cutting table.  Now to make labels for my boxes.
