2011 Quit Show

The quilt show is over and my quilts are safely home and back hanging on the walls.  Let me tell you I think they look so much better on white walls than black curtains.
This quilt I found right away, this was taken on Saturday

The Quilt sign for Mystical Horses
It is so hard to describe your quilt in 50 words or less, especially one you designed.

I need to tell you a little story, it is kind of funny now but I didn't think it was while it was happening.  After work on Thursday I ran quickly over to the show to see my quilts.  I found the first one right away both in the program and one the properly labeled isle with the same number.  It look marvelous, I was happy.  I visited with some friend and then I started to look for the the second quilt.  I couldn't find it in the program.  I walked around and thought since it is for display only it must be in the other room, so I went to the other room.  No it wasn't down the halls or in the other room.  So back around the main room again.  Still can't find it.  I couldn't find any of the 5000 number quilts not in the program or on any signs.

I heard some of the volunteers speaking that some of the program wasn't printed and some pages were missing so that explains why I couldn't find it in the program.  So I asked them where were the display quilts hanging and they said they were squeezed on many of the different categories rows.  So back around again both rooms.  Still didn't find it.

I finally asked for the organizer to help me find, she thought it was in the back of the room and we walked there together, she remembered the name and seeing it.  Over 400 quilts and she remembers mine.  I am good with that.

Blue Moon at the Show
Sure enough she takes me to it, I look at it and I was thinking that's not my quilt the colors don't look right. Luckily I didn't say the words because it was my quilt.  It just looked so different against black. Goes to prove that the color behind the quilt effects the over all look of the quilt. Needless to say I was relieved and I was able to roam around and enjoy the other quilts and the vendors.  The show is very nice on Thursday night not a ton of people like there are on Friday & Saturday.

I have included the judge's comments.  I really dislike that I am also classified as a professional quilter, I think I should be classified as a quilts for others to support my quilting habit, not to make money.  I don't feel I am in the same class the as the big show stoppers type professional, if you know what I mean.  Somehow I don't think I am going to win that debate.

I do not have a stitch regulator on my machine.
Last but next the least here is the quilt show label I can add to my quilt.

Quilt Show label.

AQG gave us these nice bags to bring our quilt home in.
Will I do it again, I don't know, it is fun, it is work, your friends enjoy your quilt make it a lot of fun.  It is fun to see quilts made by your friends.  Today I think, I'll do it again when I finish my Dear Jane.

What do all these pictures mean????

This is not the label I wanted to make but just as I sat at my machine to make the labels I had in my mind, my machine died.  I mean stopped dead, no lights in the control panel.  So I stopped and took it to the shop, they think it might be a dead mother board.  I dropped it off late Saturday afternoon.  The repair man was off on Monday so I hope to find out today (Tuesday) how much the damages are.  So instead of pretty labels I made these ones very fast.

Which serve the purpose.

Since they are covered by these.

In the bags!

This is what I did on Sunday before church.

And these are what I need to pick them up again on Saturday evening after the show.
You got it it is quilt show time!!

Quilt Show

My description of the quilt and the card that hung by my quilt.

I went Thursday night after work to see my quilts hanging in a show. I first went down a row of vendors and after I turned the corner I could see about 4 rows back my BOO it's Halloween Quilt. After I walked down that row and turned that corner I saw my other quilt, also on the end. It was fun to see them. I was so tired Thursday night I could hardly stand but I was determined to see them. Today I went back with several friends to see the show. Since I was better rested I could enjoy the show more. It was very crowded today but Thursday night was nice not a lot of people around.

After Richard & I went to a movie this afternoon I went back to pick up my quilts. I had to deliver my quilts in a plastic bag and I picked them up in the same bags. Inside the bag were my evaluations of my quilts by the judges, a thank you note and a label to sew on to my quilts. I have scanned them all for you to see.

This is the evaluation for the BOO it's Halloween. The judges missed that this was a group quilt, a block swap, so ignore the comments about the piecing and applique, since I didn't do that part. I couldn't believe there was one loose thread the the judges found that. I don't think it need additional quilting. The style seems to be to quilt it heavy, I don't like heavy quilting.

My quilt description on the card that hung by my quilt. Do you know how hard it is to describe a quilt in 50 words????

Here I am by my Dear Jane Christmas quilt. On this evaluation they also missed it was a group quilt. I do agree this quilt needs a little more quilting maybe in the ditch around the blocks or on some of the blocks. They also liked my alternating sashing and the shape of the quilt. So my two favorite things about this quilt were also liked by the judges.

Quilt Show Thank You note.

It was a good experience and I might do it again if I ever find time to quilt again. The quilt show was very well organized.

Sunday Quilting Upate

Where do I start??
Thursday night I spent the evening filling out the entry forms for the AQG (Arizona Quilter's Guild) Quilt Show which will be in March. I entered two of my quilts for this judged show. I'm entry my Dear Jane Boo Swap Quilt which is now titled BOO It Is Halloween and my Dear Jane Christmas Quilt. I'm a little frustrated with the application because of some of their definitions. I couldn't say it was a first time entry because I had been in a small show before and to use that you had to never had a quilt in any show. This is the first time I have entered a quilt in this state wide show. The second was because I have been compensated for my quilting I am a professional quilter. Well I still think my frame quilting as very amateurish. I don't consider myself one of those very skilled and talented professional long arm quilters. I have a long way to go to get to that level. I hope no one looks at my less than perfect quilting and say Yuck she is a professional. I might have to make a suggestion to have a third category, something between amateur and professional. I also had to take new photos and measure the quilts, width, length and perimeter. I mailed the entries Friday morning. I would have sent it electronically but that wasn't possible. Here is hoping the judges will be somewhat positive. I have never been in a judged show before and I'm a little nervous. My friends and I will enjoy seeing my quilts there. Of course I have also over heard some people's comments on seeing a quilt. Matter of fact I can remember saying one very rude comment myself and after opening mouth and inserting foot, I prayed the quilter wasn't around me. It was a truly ugly quilt and it had Judges Choice ribbon. Obviously I have different tastes than those judges. Oh Well it will be what it will be and I still like my quilts no matter what anyone says.

I guess that was a bit of a rant.

I did make progress on my borders for the Washington Medallion. These are the top and bottom borders and I have my baskets going the right way!!
Next on to the side borders. Between these borders and the center I have 3 floating borders to do. All that measuring and math, yuck.

I also made some progress on my Farmer's Wife Sampler and made six blocks all today. OK 5 of them were easy ones. I'm on the Yahoo list for this and 3 more blocks and I will be caught up with the Block of the Week list. I'm sure liking my fabrics I'm using for this.

Well I really need to go to bed, Mondays sure come to fast.
