I made a Special Card

Our daughter Kierra and her husband were married
8 years ago on Halloween. I did blog about it but the video is gone. You can see different posts of the wedding album I made her. Just look for Wedding album on the side bar, if you want.

So for her anniversary I wanted to make a card that was half Anniversary and half Halloween. I had seen some cool Screen Cards or Screen Divider Cards and I wanted to make one of them.
Here is a video I watched to learn how to make the Screen Card.

But since I wanted a half and half card, I used two different punches across the top instead of one. One half had hearts for their anniversary and the other half had bats for Halloween.

Since her colors are black and red the black card stock worked perfectly for both sides. On the Anniversary side I used some of my Kiwi Lane design templates for the design and some of the left over punches, the hearts and from the bottom for feet of the screen.
On the right I used some Tim Holtz Halloween ephemera and his  die cuts for words on both sides.  I love the way the big bat is in the middle of the Halloween side.

It is a great feeling when what you had in your minds eye turns out the way you wanted.

Little Christmas Gifts

We all need a simple little gift Christmas for someone.  Last year some one sent me these cute little envelops for Hot Chocolate.  So this year I made some with my scrapbooking friends.  Then today I made some more using my Kiwi Lane Design Templates.
It is a fun little project.

The one on the left is the one I received last year, the one in the middle is the one I made last Saturday and the one on the right is the one I made with the Kiwi Lane Design Templates.
The spoon is held on with glue dots.  I decided on my one with the candy cane and ginger bread man to just tuck the spoon inside the envelope with the Hot Chocolate packet.

I used a regular business envelop and cut it in half, after sealing it shut.  You could also use fancy envelops, or colored ones.
Next I cut a half circle so the packet is easy to pull out.

Here I scanned the packet in so you could see it better without the spoon.

For the paper around the envelope I cut a strip 9" x 4", scored it and wrapped it around the envelope.

Here are the spots I scored at, from the left edge,
this is the back of the paper.  I scored at 3 7/8",
4 1/8" and 1" at the end.
I am sure you don't have to do it the same, this worked for me.

Then decorate the front as you would like.  I purchased these
Tiny Traditions template set when they first came out this fall,
so I wanted to play with them.

Have fun!

Kiwi Lane Template Notebook

I no longer store my Kiwi Lane Design Templates like this, I will do a post on how I store them now.

Back in June, I organized my notebook for my Kiwi Lane Templates.  See the post here

Well, I kept checking to see if the sleeve protectors with four pockets were available and they weren't.  So I made my own.
I took the two pocket sleeve protectors and marked the center of the card stock inside the pocket.  Put the card stock back inside and sewed on the line.  Yuppers!  I just put that sucker in my machine and sewed!

Here are the results.

This is the notebook open and you can see the packaging slips on the left and the templates on the right.

Just the template side.

This is a scanned close-up instead of a picture from my camera.  I moved the flap out of the way to sew down the middle.  It worked really well and took about three pages out of my notebook.  Making my notebook a little less bulky.

Happy Scrapbooking!

Organized My Kiwi Lane Templates

I got the idea from Natalie over at Create Share BlessI like it so much I copied her idea.  I did almost everything the same but I did change some things.  Because sometimes you can make a good idea better, or it works better for me.
So I found the same job ticket folders for the borders, I didn't have any 12 x 12 card stock to cut down to 9 x 12, so I just used 8.5 x 11 card stock.  It worked fine, not perfect.  I did punch the holes in the side of the ticket sleeve.  I used my heavy duty three hole punch and just folded the top down to make it fit in the puncher.  My hand held puncher was not sharp enough to punch through the plastic of the sleeve.  Since the sleeve is 12 inches long it does show over the top of my binder but I am good with that.

Natalie put her package insert in the back of her sleeve of the set of templates.  I put mine next to or across from my templates, so I can see the shapes drawn out without moving my templates around.

Here are the Accessories Templates, in the two pocket sleeve protectors.  These are by Martha Steward and have a top flap so things don't slip out. Here I placed the package insert opposite from the templates but I had to change sides.  I wanted the templates on the side with the flap so they would be easier to get to.
Yes my templates are in alphabetical order.
I couldn't find the sleeve protectors with the four pockets at Staples or online.  So I used the two pockets pages for the Tiny Accessories.  I will buy the four pocket ones once they are available.  I did use different color cardstock, I liked the fun colors. So borders are one color, Accessories another, and Tiny Accessories another.  I can find each section easily in my notebook.
I had been using a large plastic bin to carry around my templates and store them.  I found I was using the same ones all the time because I would forget what I had.
I thought about getting the Kiwi Lane template tray but I don't have enough flat space in my home to have it sitting out.  Plus I didn't think it would be easy to transport when I go scrapbooking.  I also thought the price was a little high.  I scrapbook in my living room, so I have no place to keep things out.  But I can tuck this notebook by the side of the couch when I am not using it.  Plus it will travel easily.  I used it today and found my templates easily and could return them to the correct place just as easy.  I spent about $35 for the sleeve protectors and card stock.  I have the 2 inch D-ring binder here in the house. I can't wait to take it to my next scrapbooking day!
Be sure to see Natalie's blog for more details.

Updated June 21, 2020
I see people are still coming to this post and I felt it needed an update.
I did use this system for a couple of years and was happy with it, except the binder was very heavy to carry around. When Kwi Lane came out with the storage cards and the storage boxes I switched to those. I really like the cards but the boxes were hard to work with. The lids won't stay open.
Now I use the Kiwi Lane storage cards in the top basket of my Totally Tiffiany craft cart. By far my favorite way to store my templates. The large ones I keep in a sleeve protector in my idea binder.

Close up of the top draw and how the templates are labeled

The whole cart.

I made the divers for between the types of templates by using
110 lb cardstock and laminating them.
No affiliation with Kiwi Lane or Totally Tiffiany just a happy customer.

Mixed Media

What do I mean by Mixed Media, just that I have been doing a little scrapbooking and a little embroidery.
Scrapbooking first!
I have been using the Kiwi Lane Design Templates for 11 months and I wanted to try using them a little different.  My first variation was to use them with spray glitter ink.

I placed them on the paper and sprayed around them.  The next time I will cover the holes with tape, not that the little dots look bad.  Worked well.  The spray wiped off the templates with a little bit of spray cleaner and a paper towel.  I am working on some old pictures from the late 60's and early 70's.  I am not spending a lot of time just short journaling and adding pictures.  Here I used paper, I think the next one I will use card stock.

My second idea was to punch holes around a shape and then sew it with floss.  The fish is really more noticeable in person.  This was fun.

First I decide where did I want that fish.

Then I made some holes with a tapestry needle.  I first
marked all the points and all the dips to mark where the
template went in case it slipped.

Time for more holes about 1/4" a part, as even as possible, then I did the stitching.   I was going to use a lighter blue but it didn't show at all, so I went with the darker.  Where the paper is three layers deep it was a little hard to punch the holes so I stuck my needle in the back of an eraser to I could push without hurting my fingers.  It worked well.

Isn't he cute! So much better in person.

Here is the progress I made on my little Baby Step Quilt, both sashings done, and the main vine of the border is completed.
Maybe tonight I can start adding buttons.
Now it is time to clean up my creative mess.

Happy Stitching, Scraping and Life.

The Last Mini Page

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

On Christmas I gave our daughter Kierra the scrapbooking pages I made during the Kiwi Lane Blog Hop for December.
She loved them!
She complimented me on my creativity and how good it is to be so creative.  She loved the old pictures and seeing them again.
We took a picture to add to the last page and here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Here you see it with the other pages underneath it.

Here it is alone.

Have a wonderful day!

Kiwi Lane Blog Hop

I am very excited to be participating in this Kiwi Lane Blog Hop!
They ask for volunteers a few months ago and so I sent my name in all the months were full so I was added to the December Blog Hop. Yeah I know I am crazy doing this in the busiest month of the year in my busiest week of the month.  I have a quilting software class I teach every first Saturday of the month.  Wait until you see what my project turned out to be and you will know I am certifiably crazy.

Be sure to read until the end of the post to find the links to the other Blog Hop participants and the find the wonderful give away for a $25 gift certificate to Kiwi Lane.  Just in time for Christmas.

As you know I have been using Kiwi Lane Design Templates since April and I really enjoy using the templates and how wonderful they make my pages look.  They can also be mixed and matched with other techniques so they are very versatile.

Kiwi Lane sent me the Large Bracket Set to work with.  Now this is a set I didn't own and since I don't usually make 12 x 12 pages it really challenged my creativity.

I had one idea and I went with it!

Two page layout with mini pages!

You can double click on the picture to see a larger view. I will do another post where you can see each mini page individually. In this post I want to focus on some techniques and the Blog Hop.

You see when I really go all out; I go all out.  Yup that is a two page layout with 6 individual mini pages, 3 on both sides.  It holds a total of 18 pictures.  There could be more but I ran out of pictures.

I made it to chronicle all the years my daughter and her husband have been together for Christmas.

So anyway!

My first step was to place my Large Brackets on my page.  Like so!

Since I don't have photo templates or photo mats templates I placed some pictures to give me an idea of how it would look.

Because I am very visual and hands on I made some plan paper templates just to make sure my ideas would look OK without cutting my good paper.  These white papers are the inserts from the sleeve protectors. I am showing them here with color paper between them so they will be more visible.

Once I had my mini pages on my background paper I started adding templates and pictures to the mini pages. I worked on each mini page as it's own page.

I use different design templates for journaling. To make sure the text will fit in the shape I plan to use.  I hold the template right over my text on the computer screen.  Make sure your view is at 100%. It actually prints just a wee bit smaller than seen on the screen but not enough to be a problem.

So you are wondering how am I going to get these pages in an album. I have a solution for that also.  Cut down the outside edge of the sleeve, the edge opposite the spine for this two page layout.  You can see me holding it up the sleeve protector below.  That journaling card is the same one pictured above.

Then I use a brag to hold the sleeve in place.  The brag goes through the front of the sleeve, the background page, the folded over edges of the mini pages and the back of the sleeve. Here is a picture of the back of the sleeve with the brag.  If you want to add a page to the back side of this you will need to open the brad to get the new page in and then reuse the brad.

I will do a second post so you can see each mini page.
Here are close ups of the two sides.
