The Last Mini Page

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

On Christmas I gave our daughter Kierra the scrapbooking pages I made during the Kiwi Lane Blog Hop for December.
She loved them!
She complimented me on my creativity and how good it is to be so creative.  She loved the old pictures and seeing them again.
We took a picture to add to the last page and here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Here you see it with the other pages underneath it.

Here it is alone.

Have a wonderful day!

Kiwi Lane Blog Hop

I am very excited to be participating in this Kiwi Lane Blog Hop!
They ask for volunteers a few months ago and so I sent my name in all the months were full so I was added to the December Blog Hop. Yeah I know I am crazy doing this in the busiest month of the year in my busiest week of the month.  I have a quilting software class I teach every first Saturday of the month.  Wait until you see what my project turned out to be and you will know I am certifiably crazy.

Be sure to read until the end of the post to find the links to the other Blog Hop participants and the find the wonderful give away for a $25 gift certificate to Kiwi Lane.  Just in time for Christmas.

As you know I have been using Kiwi Lane Design Templates since April and I really enjoy using the templates and how wonderful they make my pages look.  They can also be mixed and matched with other techniques so they are very versatile.

Kiwi Lane sent me the Large Bracket Set to work with.  Now this is a set I didn't own and since I don't usually make 12 x 12 pages it really challenged my creativity.

I had one idea and I went with it!

Two page layout with mini pages!

You can double click on the picture to see a larger view. I will do another post where you can see each mini page individually. In this post I want to focus on some techniques and the Blog Hop.

You see when I really go all out; I go all out.  Yup that is a two page layout with 6 individual mini pages, 3 on both sides.  It holds a total of 18 pictures.  There could be more but I ran out of pictures.

I made it to chronicle all the years my daughter and her husband have been together for Christmas.

So anyway!

My first step was to place my Large Brackets on my page.  Like so!

Since I don't have photo templates or photo mats templates I placed some pictures to give me an idea of how it would look.

Because I am very visual and hands on I made some plan paper templates just to make sure my ideas would look OK without cutting my good paper.  These white papers are the inserts from the sleeve protectors. I am showing them here with color paper between them so they will be more visible.

Once I had my mini pages on my background paper I started adding templates and pictures to the mini pages. I worked on each mini page as it's own page.

I use different design templates for journaling. To make sure the text will fit in the shape I plan to use.  I hold the template right over my text on the computer screen.  Make sure your view is at 100%. It actually prints just a wee bit smaller than seen on the screen but not enough to be a problem.

So you are wondering how am I going to get these pages in an album. I have a solution for that also.  Cut down the outside edge of the sleeve, the edge opposite the spine for this two page layout.  You can see me holding it up the sleeve protector below.  That journaling card is the same one pictured above.

Then I use a brag to hold the sleeve in place.  The brag goes through the front of the sleeve, the background page, the folded over edges of the mini pages and the back of the sleeve. Here is a picture of the back of the sleeve with the brag.  If you want to add a page to the back side of this you will need to open the brad to get the new page in and then reuse the brad.

I will do a second post so you can see each mini page.
Here are close ups of the two sides.

    Scrapbooking

    Hello everyone!
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and are having a stress free getting ready for Christmas or other Holidays.
We are doing a little scripture a day to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. I found this neat idea on LDS.org of a Christmas Countdown. Even if you start late it will still be a good idea.

We had lots of company for Thanksgiving but I forgot to get pictures.  I was very hungry by the time dinner was severed and I only wanted to eat!  Dinner was very nice.

The day after Thanksgiving I took advantage of have the big table that was set up for our guests in the living room and did some scrapbooking!  I am working on a special project that you will see posted on Friday the 6th.  The project is part of a Blog Hop with Kiwi Lane Design Templates.

As you can see I made a Big Mess also, but I do clean up after myself.  It was great having all the room to work on.

I have been doing some quilting also but I don't have any pictures to post yet so I'll save that for another day.  Now to go work on the tree some more.

    Have fun doing everything!

    Catch-Up Post

This post is a major Catch up with what has going on around here.  Yes, I have been busy and in-between busy I have worked on a few things.  So here you go!

Two years ago I craved a Funkin, here you can see how it looked.   Well this year when I unpacked it there was a little accident and the middle part broke off.  There was too much detail.  So anyway we decided it looked like a monster's mouth and we decided it needed a tongue and some eyes.  How do you like the new look?  I just used paper for the tongue and eyes.

We purchased some new inside decoration and one is on loan to us. All at half price, my 2nd favorite price.

This is my other new decoration!  Isn't it great!

The outside is also all decked out!

I have done some tying of Mr. B's quilt but I most admit I am not loving this.  I need to get it done for Christmas or before because he needs it and has been very patiently waiting for this.  I was going to give it to him last Christmas.  But life happened.

It is also uncomfortable to stand at my frame and do this.  I am working from the back to tie it and it a reach and I can only do about one row at a time.  I must make time for this.  The sacrifices we make for our love ones.

I felt like doing some piecing.
I really wanted to make the Twister Jack-O-Lantern but I couldn't find the pattern at any of my favorite places.   Here is a link to the pattern. So I decided to make this little snowman that I was going to make last year and didn't.  This is made from a charm pack.  I found the squares hard to cut in half with the little pointy edges.  Better done than perfect.  It still needs some embellishments before it is sandwiched and quilted.

I also took two quilting classes.  This is my piece from the walking foot class.  Yes I have taken classes before and I have done most of my own quilting, except on three quilts.  One of my goals for my retirement was to become a better quilter and so I took a couple of classes, this one was the walking foot class, the second one was the free motion class.  I learned a lot from both of them.

The best part is I learned some new ideas for quilting so maybe I will get out of my same old same rut.  I didn't take a picture of the free motion sample yet so I'll save it for another post.  I took the classes from Sandy Davis at A Quilter's Oasis.

And last but not least I am still making more Yo-Yos for my Yo-Yo quilt.  From this post in
August you can see I have a
few more yo-yos, but not a lot.

If you click on this link, it will take you to my Genealogy Blog and you can see the Family History Scrapbooking pages I have made. I am loving how they have turned out.

Have fun whatever you are doing!!

    More Scrapbooking

On Friday and Saturday I managed to find some time to myself and I did some scrapbooking.
In the top page has a picture of my great uncle Herbert.  His granddaughter in England is my Genealogy research buddy. We meet on Ancestry.com and we have really enjoyed each others friendship as we search for the stores of our family.
Herbert was a Vice President at Canada Dry Ginger Ale company back in the day.  This is his second wife Gertrude.  I have ship passenger lists with their names on the list.

These are also a great uncle and great aunt.  They are on a tarmac ready to board a plan off to some great adventure.  I don't know a lot about them, other than they were first cousins that married but had no children.
My first cousin sent me these pictures.

Well this kid is now a young man of 28.  These are some of his school pictures and of course only one picture has the year and age on it.  He wrote it himself.  Funny how much they change from year to year.  He is a great kid.

Well that's all folks! Be happy and enjoy whatever you are doing!

    A Long Over Due Update.

Well I am way over due for an update.  I have been busy doing lots of stuff. As you will see in a minute.
First up is a doll dress I made for the little foster girl.  I wish I cold show you a picture of her and how happy she was with the dress.  She watched me make the dress.  She also picked out the fabric.  She is one happy little girl. I finished it on July 26th.  I found the free pattern on line.

I forgot when I finished the back for my hubby's quilt, sometime in July.  I loaded it on my frame and it hung like this until today.  You might notice I forgot to trim something.  I think that is why I stop making progress.  I didn't notice until after it was loaded.  Ugh!  Well the debate was do it the easy way or the hard way.  I did it the easy way.  I just unrolled some quilt, placed a mat on the floor and trimmed.  :-)  Keep it Simple works.

See now the batting and top are also loaded.  That is high loft batting in that quilt, so I will be tying it instead of quilting it.  That is my hubby's request.

We took a trip to California to go to Disneyland and the beach. I like to do hand work while my hubby is driving.  It helps pass the time.  I had two Yo-Yo blocks to finish doing the appliquéing down the Yo-Yos.  I used my automatic needle threader which helped thread those small eyed needles.

After I finished the blocks I started making more Yo-Yo's, as you can see I made it to my red, white and blue fabric.  Would you believe the tin below should be the same color as the picture above.  One taken in natural light and the other in my sewing room, same camera.

Here are the last three blocks I finished that brings my total to 37 only 44 more to go!

Happy Stitching or whatever you are doing!
