This Weeks Sewing and EQ

The fall pillow is done!
Fall Pillow

Of course it was only on the couch long enough for this preview and the Halloween cover is back on the pillow.

I frequently surf the net and find interesting blocks that I draw in EQ7.  I found two this week and I drew them both and made both of them.

I will be using this in my Farmer's Wife Sampler.  I forgot which site I found this one or I would give the site credit.

This will also being used in the Farmer's Wife Sampler.

I found this block on Fresh Lemon Quilts there is a series of Solstice Star Series. I have drawn a couple of her stars but I haven't made them yet.  This was suppose to be a 12 inch block but I made it a 6 inch block.  The math was a little tricky for cutting.  I hate those 3/16th sizes.  I cut the star triangles bigger and I have to remake those points.  If I sew this block now I will lose those points. I am too tired to work on it tonight, that is for another day.

This week I will be preparing for my EQ Club meeting on Saturday plus I am going out three nights this week. A busy week but the week will go fast and I will be one week closer to the new chapter in my life.  More on that later.

Happy Stitching and have fun.

Fall Pillow

Do you remember the Halloween pillow cover I made here?  Well since I had my Featherweight out I and the ruffler foot on the machine, I made the ruffle first for my fall pillow cover. Now I am working on the front.  I am appliqueing the tear drops by hand so it is taking a little more time.  Even thought it isn't finished I am posting a picture of it here.

Fall Pillow Top

I am using scrapes from my stash.  I fussy cute those leaves out for the tear drops.  Then I arranged the color of the leave by orange on two sides and green on the other two sides.
Have fun stitching!!

Sew Along Block 2

Well this block was a little more challenging to make.
It took a couple of minute of studying it to figure out the best way to make the block.  I almost always paper piece blocks with these kinds of weird angles.

Just to give you a little idea of how I pieced the block I have a couple pictures of it under constuction. Here is the back, you can see where I joined the sections together.

WOW the color is sure off in this one, above is more accurate.

Halloween Pillow

While I was hanging up my Halloween quilts and putting my Halloween decorations around my house.  I repositioned my blue Honey Bee pillow on my sofa.  I thought I should make me a Halloween pillow.

Blue Pillow

I made this in the Summer of 1995. This was my first quilting class I took when I started quilting.  It was hand pieced but machine quilted.  Blue is my favorite color and it matches my mother-in-laws sofa we inherited very nicely.

So making this Halloween pillow turned out to be quite the adventure.  Some sewing projects go smoothly and others have lots of mishaps.  The little center quilt block went smoothly, seriously what could go wrong making a 9 patch block with a little border.  Quilting it went OK.
I used my spider web quilting again.

But that ruffle took me three nights to finish.  First I had to watch a little video on how to use the foot, since I haven't use it in at least 12 years.  I broke two needles and I had to bring out my featherweight sewing machine to finish it.  I took off and replace the ruffler foot at least four times.  I couldn't thread the needle with it on, so off it came.  I think my new machine doesn't like my ruffler foot.  It won't make a ruffle, so I took the fabric out at least 10 times every 4 inches.  I had 120" of ruffle.

So I switched to my Featherweight and things went smooth for the first 10 stitches, then I ran out of thread.  I forgot to put thread on the machine.  I had sewn with what was left from the last time I used the machine.  Took the foot off one more time to thread the machine.  No more broken needles and it was making ruffles!!  I was finally able to finish the ruffle and sew it on to the front.

I used fabric from my stash and didn't buy any to make this project.  That is always fun.  I am going to make a Fall pillow also, I already have  Christmas one.  I am going to start with the ruffle while my Featherweight is still out.

Just a little fun thing, I have had these black roses for a couple of years,  stopped by Michael's today and they had some and found these fun fullers on sale and I added them to the roses. Those are purple spiders.

Have fun what ever you are doing!

Block Base Sew Along Block 1

Yes I am going to do this Block Base Sew along being sponsored by Electric Quilt.  They are going to pick12 blocks and my Farmer's Wife Sampler will need some extra blocks since I want to make my king size.  So it seems like a good fit for me.
Do you remember my Farmer's Wife Sampler?  I know I haven't worked on it for a long time.  It has been calling to me a little.  So now maybe it will be happy for awhile.

They didn't say  couldn't post my block here before the 12th.  On the 12th if you make a block and own Block Base you can post your block on their site.  If you click on the button above it will take you to the Electric Quilt blog and learn more.

Boots is Finished!!

It's All About the Boots is finished and has been since Monday night, October first.  My goal was to have it on the wall by the 1st and I made it.  Sometime I wonder why do I put such pressures on myself but it wasn't that hard to meet.
When I hung all my Halloween quilts on Saturday I left a place for it on the wall in the family room.

On the wall

It is hanging next to one of my favorite Halloween quilts called Monsters.  I did echoing quilting around the boots, the title and the orange around the title.  On the borders I did a spider web design.  I used that border design in Monsters also.  It is fun.  I use iridescent thread to make it more web like.
Spider Web Quilting

You can't see the quilting real well in this picture, I only have two rows of web.

Web Quilting on Monsters

This shows up much better.

Well have fun stitching and enjoy Halloween!
