Klint & Krystal

On Feb 12th my Dear Husband drove up to Star Valley AZ to pick up Klint. Klint needed to come to Phoenix to take a bus trip to Salt Lake City. He will be in training for a truck driving job for the next 3 weeks. While up in Star Valley Richard took some pictures of Klint & Krystal's spread. Klint built the goat house all by himself. He likes to build, fix things and has a natural ability. They both love the animals. Krystal love to ride and write fantasy stories. Richard said she just jumped right up on that horse's back. They have been married for three years and hate to be apart, but this job is a good opportunity for Klint. Krystal has a lot to keep her busy with 2 goats, 1 horse, 2 cats and a rodent of some kind. Mean while we are praying for Klint to do well on his new job and for safety while he is driving across the country. Right now he is in Georgia.

Sunday Quilting Upate

By the time I finished sewing last Sunday night I was too tired to do an update. So this one has two weeks worth of sewing news. I have been busy with my on line class from Quilt University .com, Math for Quilter. I have learned a lot and have lots of reading, drawing & math home work do to. I have gotten behind with the cataract surgery, plus I took part of my lesson to work to punch holes in the electric hole punch on Friday & forgot to bring it home.

Yesterday I taught part 1 of the One Block Wonder class, one student didn't show. The two I had left loved the class, who won't with such personal help. Part 2 is in 4weeks. I wanted them to have enough time to finish sewing all those hexagon halves. They are a couple of nice ladies.

I sewed one another blocks with my Square N a Square ruler. I had to enlarge this one to match the sizes of my other blocks. I used a trick I learned in my Math for Quilters class. That's this lone block here.

The other fun thing I have been doing is this extra project I'm doing. I'm calling it Caribbean Sea. Some of my local quilt friends have been doing this block of the month using earth tones, they are calling it Mother Earth. I like their blocks so much I decided to join in, but I don't like earth tones, so I'm doing blues, greens, cool colors, that's why the name Caribbean Sea. I have all my cool tone Batiks on my cutting table, trying to find stuff with enough contrast can be a challenge with Batiks. I'm liking my results. In the slide show you will notice I draft the blocks in EQ6. I almost like my EQ6 colors better than my real colors, but you have to make do with what you have. No this was not one of my goal quilts, but I really felt like doing some piecing, so I did.

A very small speed bump in the road of life.

Well here I'm in all my glory after my cataract surgery. It was hard to smile with all that tape on my face. That shield and patch were very annoying. It was also annoying that I could not read. I survived a whole 24 hours with out reading! A small miracle in itself. I couldn't get my glasses over my shield. I ended up making a run to the doctors office yesterday afternoon because it felt like I had an eye lash in my eye. Sure enough my eye bottom lashes had turned up and were in my eye. Do you know how hard it is to keep an eye closed when the other one is open, even with it patched down. I reclined in my lazy boy watching TV and sleeping. Which of course meant I didn't sleep well last night.

Today when to the doctors and I had my patch removed and my eye examined. I can now see 20 - 40 in that eye for distance. And that is less than 24 hours after surgery. I had a mono vision lens implanted.
I have to admit I was very nervous going into surgery, after all I understand all the risk and complications that can occur. The idea of anything near my eye drives me nuts let alone anything in it. I can't even stand others putting in eye drops. My logical brain said this is very minor, the most common surgery performed, high success rate and all. But it's that old emotional brain that get scared and worries. I also come from a long line of worriers, so I can do it well.

I'm grateful for many things, just to live in an age of implantable lens is wonderful. The care is so much easier than it was 40 years ago when I was an LPN and did private duty for cataract patients who had to stay in bed and couldn't turn to the operative side and a whole bunch of other things. I had a good skilled doctor and nurses and best of all I have a good husband you held my hand and took care of me. Plus he and Kinsen have to do the kitty litter boxes for the next 2 weeks!! The surgery wasn't as bad as what my imagination can conjure up. All I saw was a bright light and at the end I could see the drop the doctor put in, it looked like a circle spreading across my vision. The anesthesiologist said I fought the anesthesia all the way. I wasn't trying to, but I needed double of the IV stuff as well as the local anesthesia around my eye. Like I said I was really nervous. Nurses just don't make good patients. We don't like being on the other side of the needle.

I'm glad it is over and I very glad for my gift of vision!! How precious a gift it is. Go enjoy looking at beautiful things today. I know I will.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Well I want to thank all my friends and especially my husband for making my Birthday a special day. One of my friends sent me a surprise gift to work, the delivery person was another friend from work. The surprise gift was Ghiradelli's dark chocolate squares with raspberries in the center. Very Very Very GOOD!!, some Linder raspberry truffles, and a Cold Stone Cookies & Cream ice cream cakes. Some of the other gifts I received were potpourri, a picture frame holder, a guardian angel pin, a pink rose, a CD of women’s' songs from church. I received a ton of email greetings with fun wishes included, many phone messages and calls.
A dear friend took me out to dinner on Wednesday evening and we had a delightful time visiting and sharing our thoughts and feelings.

Of course I made some of my own fun also, I wore my Birthday pins.


The funniest part was my sweet husband brought me flowers and a balloon. The balloon plays music, the song is How Sweet it is. My honey out did himself. We also went to Outback Steak House for dinner. I'm very full and content.

Snow on our Mountains

Tuesday night while driving to have dinner with Kierra & Will for dinner. I noticed there was snow on the mountains to the East of us. I did whip out my camera and took two pictures but they were very poor quality. So on Wednesday I took my camera to work and took pictures out of the 5th story window. It is a real treat for me to see the snow on the mountains. There wasn't a lot but I enjoyed it. See for your self!

I know for you folks who live in the land of lots of snow, don't think much of this but remember I'm in Mesa AZ.
